In the past, quarrying and nature conservation have sometimes been seen as incompatible. In reality the minerals industry has much to contribute to both biodiversity and geodiversity! Britain's minerals industry has an excellent track record of contributing to both biodiversity and geodiversity through appropriate planning, operating, restoring and after- care of land. Alongside active quarries the industry is a major land manager of non-operational land. Quarries and non-operational land both play an important role in helping to conserve important habitats, species and geological features. English Nature, the Quarry Products Association and the Silica and Moulding Sands association recognise the importance of developing and maintaining a positive working relationship. In June 2005, a joint statement of intent, designed to encourage environmentally sustainable development of the nation's quarries, was updated and re-signed. These three organisations meet as the Minerals & Nature Conservation Forum and you are a welcome visitor to our website. To find out more, please explore our links. |
